14 May Top 5 Video Games to play with your kids
Although I’m not keen on letting my kids sit in front of the TV for hours playing video games on the PS4, now and again it’s a great way to spend an hour or two bonding over beating up bad guys and saving the world. Here are the Single Dad’s top 5 video games to play with your kids.
1. Lego Marvel Super Heroes (action-adventure)
This is our absolute favourite game at the moment, all three of us love playing this. The levels are fun and can be quite challenging, they also have a lot of replayability. Once you’ve played a level you unlock it, then you can replay the level with any of the character’s you have previously unlocked.
It also has a great New York City hub world where you can change to any of the 155 character’s you have unlocked at any time. If you and your kids are into Lego and Marvel Super hero’s then you can’t go wrong. It’s also an older game so you can pick it up dirt cheap.
2. Little Big Planet 3 (puzzle-platformer)
This game is a lot more challenging than Lego Marvel Super Heroes, so you may need to have a little more patience when playing this one. The issue happens when you can’t move on without both players working together, which can happen in the tougher platforming areas.
One of the main reasons my kids like this game is the customizability of the levels and Sackboy (the main playable character). The kids have literally turned the game on and spent thirty minutes just changing the outfit on their Sackboys.
3. Rocket League (vehicular soccer)
A fantastic game for kids who love cars and football, I have to admit my daughter isn’t that keen on this one but my son loves it. When the three of us do play it’s a case of one goal and change, this is when either team score a goal we change who’s playing (as it’s only a one-player game).
This is a fun game which is easy to pick up and hard to master. It has various game modes and also gives you the ability to customise your car, which the kids love as they get to be creative. I have to admit I’m a big fan of this game and bought the Batmobile DLC (yes I’m a nerd who loves batman).
The other benefit of this game is that the matches are only 5 minutes long, so “one more game” before we switch off the PS4 is a good compromise.
4. Injustice: Gods Among us (fighting)
Now, this is a fighting game so you need to make a call as a parent that your kids are okay to play it. As the violence is over the top cartoon superhero violence I feel comfortable with them playing it. With all that said both my kids love this game and with 30 characters to choose from they have a wide range of heroes to pick from.
The story in the game is quite good for a fighting game but to be honest the kids only play the VS mode. Another good one for the “one more game” compromise as the fights only last minutes (and yes my favourite character is Batman).
5. Transformers Devastation (action hack and slash)
My son is a big Transformers fan and loves Optimus Prime, so when he gets to play as him and transform from truck to Optimus, then beat up the bad guys he loves it.
I would only recommend this if your kids are fans of the Transformers as the game is good but in my opinion, it’s fairly repetitive. The game is a couple of years old now so you can pick it up cheap.
So that’s it, the Single Dad top 5 video games to play with your kids. As always if you have any comments or I’ve missed off any games from the list then please leave a comment below.
